The foliage of the ‘Purpurascens’ is softer than that of most Miscanthus, about 1/2″ wide, and takes on a reddish hue in the summer, turning completely red in the fall. The ‘Purpurascens’ is sometimes referred to as flame grass because of its fall coloring. It is not drought tolerant and does not perform well in extreme heat.
